TRACES OF AN EXISTENCE

(collaboration with Mark D. Roberts)
Soap residue on a sponge mixed with black paint left an unexpected hint of sparkle on the shadow figures. The background is a silvery paper comprised of metal threads –and in certain lighting the mummies recede and appear to be cut out.  The haunting figures were not formed with a specific identity, however, shortly after they were finished the abuses committed at Abu Ghraib prison came to light. The disturbing image of the hooded prisoner has remained connected to me through this piece ever since.
